Going the Distance!!

Libby I wrote you this song, so maybe you will realize you need to train for this half marathon.... This is an old song by, Cake called the distance.

Reluctantly crouched at the starting line,
heart rates pumping and thumping in time.
the gun shot blasts, the flags go up.
churning and burning, they yearn for the cup.
they deftly maneuver and muscle for rank,
energy burning fast on an empty tank.
reckless and wild, they pour through the turns.
their prowess is potent and secretly stern.
as they speed through the finish, the flags go down.
the fans get up and they get out of town.
the streets are empty except for one woman,
still running and sprinting as fast as she can.
the sun has gone down and the moon has come up,
and long ago somebody left with the cup.
but she's running and sprinting and hugging the turns.
and thinking of Applebee’s as her stomach churns.

she's not going the distance.
she's not in the lead
she's all alone
all alone in her time of need.
because she's racing and pacing and plotting the course,
she's blistered and aching and waiting for the end,
she's not going the distance.

no trophy, no flowers, no flashbulbs, no wine,
she's haunted by something she cannot define.
bowel-shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse,
assail her, impale her with monster-truck force.
in her mind, she's still running, still making the grade.
she's hoping in time that her memories will fade.
cause she's racing and pacing and plotting the course,
she's blistered and aching and waiting for the end,
the sun has gone down and the moon has come up,
and long ago somebody left with the cup.
but she's running and sprinting and hugging the turns.
and thinking of Applebee’s as her stomach churns.

cause she's not going the distance.
she's not in the lead
she's all alone
all alone in her time of need.
because she's racing and pacing and plotting the course,
she's blistered and aching and waiting for the end,
she's racing and pacing and plotting the course,
she's blistered and aching and waiting for the end,
she's not going the distance.
she's not in the lead.
she's not going the distance.
